Reviews: October 16th

San Jose 2 New Jersey 1 (so) YES
San Jose played their game mostly, just couldn't finish more. Marleau - Hertl - Ward line looked fine. Logan Couture - rugged foward, some years has had a shooter's touch mixed with the toughness - usually plays on this line but is out with a broken fibula injured in practice thursday, i think.
New Jersey played well and had some shots been placed a little better could have stolen this game. (But the same is true for San Jose - different bounces and it's a 4-2 game Sharks)

Toronto 6 Columbus 3 NOPE
Columbus has moments of really good hockey but overall it's like their focus falls away. Two of those goals by Toronto were the result of, or at least partially impacted by, the Blue Jackets watching the refs instead of playing hockey. Even Bobrovsky  (CBJ's goalie) seemed to be distracted/asleep on two of the goals. Not to take away from Toronto - i think overall they outplayed the Blue Jackets - but even so, if Columbus had been a bit tighter (more concentrated?) Toronto still could have lost that game.

Carolina 5 Detroit 3 YES
Staal to Faulk for that powerplay goal. Nice. There's the perfect pass - serving that goal on a platter for Faulk. More impressive was that blind outlet pass to Nyquist by Zetterberg for Detroit that set up Detroit's first goal. Beauty pass, beauty shot. The Canes seemed to do what they did to the Red Wings at home - managed a lot of the play well, beat Detroit to the puck. This time they were able to finish some easy ones. They could have won by more.

Calgary 1 Winnipeg 3 YES
Fun game. Both played well, although Winnipeg had a few more chances, it seemed. Byfuglien's goal at the end is worth watching the entire game for. He is a great player - big d-man with really good skating. Like Subban in Montreal, he takes risks that probably make coaches cringe, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Calgary seems to be churning things like last year but not finishing as well.

St. Louis 4 Vancouver 3 NOPE
Vancouver made a great push at the end. Too little too late (coin that phrase for me :) ) St Louis played St Louis hockey (Ken Hitchcock hockey) Deep talent, no light shifts. Vancouver seemed unable to do much early. But once they got going, they looked creative and sharp.

Colorado 3 Anaheim 0 NOPE
(...in the works)

Minnesota 1 Los Angeles 2 (OT) NOPE
(...in the works)

3 - 4 tonight
