Man, I got no problems with Erik Karlsson. He is one fantastic skater. He has good hockey sense as well. And as a defenseman on Ottawa, he also is their offense - leading in assists and points. He's already won two Norris Trophies in his young career. Obviously, the guy is good.
But to me, this article is why the new stats geeks miss the boat.
Karlsson is very good. But the idea of comparing him to Paul Coffey has to be a numbers and stats thing. Watch Karlsson play, he doesn't stand out like Coffey did. He doesn't look as dominant in either zone as Duncan Keith or Drew Doughty. But to these guys...eye test is unimportant, it is all about the numbers.
