Cool numbers and names to know - after the first five games.

Max Pacioretty (Montreal Canadiens - Forward) scored the first goal of the NHL season on Montreal's opening shot of the game, the second consecutive season he has accomplished both feats. Pacioretty is a solid forward - never a scorer in the line of a Rick Nash. But he is a good two-player with that sweet touch that will put it in when the chance arises.

Joe Pavelski (San Jose Sharks - Forward) has 79 goals since the start of 2013-14, the second-most in the NHL during that span, behind Alex Ovechkin with 104. This Pavelski guy is also a name to note - he came into the league on fire and then disappeared a little. Clearly though, he has matured into a solid contributor. And as the new Captain on the Sharks - it shows he is maturing into a leader all around.

The Hurricanes named defenseman Justin Faulk an alternate captains, joining captain Eric Staal and alternate captain Jordan Staal. Carolina Hurricanes info you should know :)

Jason Garrison has 13 NHL game-winning goals, all since 2010-11. Three defensemen have more such goals in that span: Oliver Ekman-Larsson, 16; Erik Karlsson and Dustin Byfuglien, 15. Not a big deal, but still something of note for your Coyote.

Max Domi scored the first goal of his NHL career in the second period and had an assist. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Domi was the first player in Coyotes franchise history to have multiple points in his NHL debut since Oct. 7, 1995 when Winnipeg's Shane Doan had two assists against the Dallas Stars).

Mike Smith made 40 saves to improve to 12-6-1 with a 2.13 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in 20 career games against Los Angeles.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the game-winner at 19:12 of the first period. During the 2014-15 season, Ekman-Larsson tied an NHL record for most game-winning goals in a season by a defenseman with seven.

While celebrating his 35th birthday, Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg (0-3—3) passed Borje Salming (150-637—787) for sole possession of 10th on the NHL all-time points list among Swedish-born players.

Alain Vigneault earned his 100th regular-season win as coach of the Rangers and became the 10th Rangers coach to win 100 regular-season games. Vigneault, who has coached 166 regular-season games with the Rangers, reached the 100-win plateau faster than any other coach in Rangers history.
