Arizona. They play well together. They execute well. But they just aren't deeply talented. I love the youngsters - Domi, Reider and DuClair. New Jersey is playing a really good own zone game. They are transitioning well also. I think. they also suffer a lack of talent. They have some - but no depth of it. This game could have gone either way.
13 Florida 2 19 Pittsburgh 3 (OT) YES
Another game that really could have gone either way. I guess it is obvious once a game goes into overtime. Pittsburgh is playing really well right now. Florida has been playing well. Sidney Crosby finally got on the goal list - very nice shot placement, basically perfect. Malkin is playing good hockey, using his size and vision very well, creating a lot as he is able to do. Very good win for the Pens - if the Pens get solid system own end play and figure out the transition a little better - they might be the only team with the chance to beat this Montreal team - considering Montreal keeps playing as they are.
6 New York Islanders 4 30 Columbus 0 YES
The Islanders are fun to watch. Columbus is fun to watch teams like the Islanders play against. Truly, Columbus played really well until they didn't, in the third period. They win in a lot of facets of the game. All the Islanders' goals were nice. Even the empty netter by Tavares - nice to see him out-accelerate the Blue Jackets' d-men. The Blue Jackets need change! And they got it - in the form of a new coach - John Tortorella, hired today.
3 Dallas 2 17 Philadelphia 1 NOPE
Jamie Benn had a beauty of a goal, checking off the pass and putting a sweet, well place shot just inside the post and up high. The Flyers played really well. This is another of those games that could go either way - play it 50 times and both teams win 25.
4 St. Louis 0 1 Montreal 3 YES
Carey Price should have a year like Tim Thomas had with Boston in 2010-11. St. Louis is a good team and really got no rebounds and rarely any second attempts. And, count how many shots Price saw fully. This will allow Price to play even more aggressive to the shooters. On the offensive end, can Pacioretty and Plekanec continue to carry things as they are? If not, Montreal may well win A LOT of 1-0 and 2-1 games. St. Louis can't be too disappointed - the score is not indicative of how close the game was. The team that can get to rebounds against Montreal will get 3 or 4 goals - sounds simple, but Subban and Markov and Petry and company - including the many good skating forwards they have - aren't making it simple as yet.
10 Tampa Bay 4 at 5 Nashville 5 (SO) YES
This was the perfect game to take someone who has never seen hockey before. End to end. Some good defense, some good saves, some very nice goals and back and forth scoring. Neither team had a two goal lead! (more to come)
