Games for tonight: October 12

Friggin' Columbus Day means afternoon games.

Winnepeg Jets at New York Islanders:
Islanders beat Jets 4 - 2

Tampa Bay Lightning at Boston Bruins:
Tampa wins 6 - 3.
Boston continues to show all the cracks created by all the changes in the team. They've lost a lot of players since that last Cup victory.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Buffalo Sabres:
This game is on-going at the moment.
Columbus was picked by most as an easy playoff team. So far they are not showing that. Season is young and so are the Blue Jackets. They have it in them to play very tough hockey and they have the talent to generate scoring chances. They have to play that system tightly, though. Any team that gives up space in order to push offense will have trouble winning the big games.
Buffalo is young. They have a future and it is not now.

Florida Panthers at Philadelphia Flyers:
I like this Florida team starting last year. They have a good mix of youth and maturity. They have some good hands and some good grinders and the defense is kinda impressive with second year talent Aaron Ekblad bringing that top-tier skill to go along with some cagey veteran defenders like Brian Campbell and Willie Mitchell
Philly is an enigma to me. They have a new coach and maybe things will change as the season progresses but they've got two top forwards and can run four lines. I believe their defense group is as thin as any in the league at least that is how they have played in season's past.

Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks:
I am hoping to see Anaheim start getting it together. They made a few changes in the off-season and who knows the real impact of these changes. I don't see Perry and Getzlaf ever letting up - so I expect this team will get adjusted and I hope it starts tonight.
