Goalies are overrated: Bad Journalists

This is the kind of junk I despise:

The Habs had their first week without a win, albeit playing just twice. They outshot the Avs 40-24 Saturday but got routed 6-1 as rookie goalie Michael Condon had his come-down-to-earth moment.
Pierre Lebrun's analysis of the Canadiens' past week.

Go watch that game. Mike Condon played well. He gave up one goal that was questionable. His backup, a decently playoff proven one, Dustin Tokarsky came in and let in two in the third period. Two backups in the same game leave it with a 6.00 GAA for the game. Pierre blames Condon in quite a condescending, see the backup playing like a backup, way.

Where was Pierre on Carey Price, the revered All-World Vezina winning bestest goalie in the game, when he let in 5 goals against Vancouver and then 4 against Edmonton back in October. You know, right when the glorious 9 game win streak ended for Les Habitants. Did Carey Price fall back to earth that day?

It fumes me, though. It alleviates the team defense responsibility and it pulls credit away from the extremely good shot placement the Avs' players had. It is not a goalie centric game. Montreal started off hot and met a lot of teams still trying to gel. Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec deposited every chance. The whole team was clicking. They are still a very good team but it is not about Mike Condon or Carey Price.

Goalies need teams to give them a chance to keep the score low. This goes contrary to the popular belief that goalies give teams a chance to win. It is the team that dictates what kind of shots the goalies see. The goalie sets no plate for the what the team lets be set up in his zone nor what goes on in the offensive zone.

And it's this silly biased journalism that leaves me saying...Goalies are overrated.
