Reviews: November 7th

15 Vancouver 2 21 Buffalo 3 YES
Jack Eichel is smooth. Buffalo is looking, in moments, to be a really good team - team of the future. Vancouver is looking to be about as good as they were last season.
Buffalo 6/4

16 Florida 1 2 Los Angeles 4 YES
The Kings, barring injury of course, are playing like the Stanley Cup Kings of a couple seasons ago. Same core. If anyone scores, and they have plenty that can, this team is next to unbeatable. Florida has been a much lesser team since Barkov went out. That may be the reason - often a player that allows for that second line to be effective changes everything.
Los Angeles 7/3

12 Boston 2 1 Montreal 4 YES
Boston had chances early that they didn't finish on. One was a wide-open net. Montreal finished on some rebounds. That was the difference. Montreal got two points but they weren't dominant. Now, go watch Plekanec's goal. Sweet sweet sweet shot. Players with time will often pick a spot and hit it as he did. On the other side, Mike Condon, Montreal's goalie, is putting up better numbers than All-World Carey Price. Hmmm...is it the system or did Montreal get so lucky to get two All-World goalies?
Montreal 6/4

29 Toronto 1 3 Washington 2 (SO) YES
I'll have to watch this - did the Caps create and just not finish or is this Toronto team starting to clamp down? Toronto does seem to be playing better. But this was not as close as the score shows. The Caps had better chances and out-skated the Leafs. Reimer was very solid in goal for the Leafs. When Ovechkin's goal with around 2 minutes to go was waved off, the Caps toughened up and stayed on it. Backstrom tied it with 0.8 second on the clock. Fun game.
Washington 7/3

20 Ottawa 2 23 Carolina 3 (OT) --
The Canes have that make-the-other-goalie-look-good thing. My Rangers do that too, at times. It's when the team generates shots and keeps control of the puck after the save to generate another shot. The part that makes the goalie look great is that very few of the shots are off the ice or near the posts. Goalies HAVE TO save those and usually do. Justin Faulk is really good. If Skinner and Staals start scoring, this Canes team could make the playoffs. They have gaps in their defense though - lack depth.
Tossup 5/5

22 Philadelphia 3 10 Winnipeg 0 NOPE
Philadelphia is a mystery. I can't think I've ever seen a team as Jekyll and Hyde as this. Shutouts one night and blown away others. They hadn't held an opponent under 2 goals since like mid-October and they scored only 6 goals in their last 5 games prior to this one.

What the heck. This is why they play, right? I need to watch this one.
